Hacksaw Ridge
Principles, Integrity and Courage Under Fire
I have several movies on my ‘To Watch’ list that I hadn’t gotten round to. Hacksaw Ridge was one of those movies. I’ve been meaning to watch it for ages but never really got around to it. I found the story intriguing. I also did not know what the term conscientious objector meant prior to learning about the movie. Watching trailers and clips of the movie only served to increase my curiosity. I finally watched it and I must say, it’s a marvelous piece of cinematic excellence
The movie is excellent. Garfield was spectacular in this clear departure from his role as Spiderman while Gibson established his prowess as a great director. When I say a war movie is excellent, I don’t mean the topic of war but rather the cinematography that brings the war scenes to life as well as the storyline and characters.
This story tells how misunderstanding others’s motives often leads us to misjudge them prematurely, treat them unfairly, or discriminate against them. On the flip side, the movie is a reminder that though the decision to stay true to principles may not be understood by others, garner friends or accolades, or attract fame or reward, it does keep us grounded and acts as a guiding light illuminating every aspect of our lives.
