I entered a dingy house
Dark and humid it was
The servants scattered about their daily chores
Yet the house was none the cleaner
I went upstairs and found the owners gathered therein
Cleaning their money pots and counting their coins

The servants were paid but the house unclean
The gardener was paid but the grounds unkempt
The driver was paid but the cars unwashed
The nanny was paid but the children unruly
The maid was paid, Oga’s bed warm but the kitchen a mess

The owners were content with the status of things
Even though rot grew up and overran their lot
Anyone who dared question the norm
Was eventually at last shown the door

Why? Oh, why? Would I remain in this house?
Dingy and dark, smelly and foul
Open the windows! Part the curtains!
Open the double doors! Let in the sunlight
Away with the cobwebs and their leeching spiders!
Burn the cupboards and their unholy abominable skeletons!
